Problem: I have seriously oily skin
in the T zone, and it is driving me crazy. I've tried
matte foundations (like Lancome MaquiControle), oil-control
gels and powders, and my face still feels like an oil
slick by midday. Surely there must be something I can
do?
Solution: Aside from doing all the right
things, it is essential that you aren't doing anything
to make matters worse. For example, if you are using a
moisturizer, even an oil-free moisturizer, stop immediately.
Your oil glands are already working overtime and this
oil is your own built-in moisturizer. There is no reason
to add more. If your oily skin is still driving you nuts,
my favorite trick is to use Milk of Magnesia and apply
an extremely thin layer of it over the most oily areas.
Let it dry, and then apply your foundation over top. When
it comes to powdering, try loose powder instead of pressed
powder. Even when pressed powder is oil-free, the wax-like
ingredients that keep it in a pressed form can add to
a slick feeling on the face. As a last resort, speak to
your dermatologist about medical options for taming oily
skin, which can range from birth control pills to hormone
blockers and, in extreme cases, Accutane.
